This guide outlines simple, practical steps to prepare your home for a twilight shoot. Completing these items ahead of time allows me to focus on capturing warm, polished, and dramatic twilight imagery.
30 minutes before

Turn on ALL interior lights in rooms that will be visible through windows. This includes overhead lights, lamps, under-cabinet lighting, etc.

Turn on ALL exterior lights. This includes porch lights, garage lights, landscape and patio lighting, water feature lighting, string lights, and any other visible fixtures.

Ensure all bulbs are working. Replace any burnt out light bulbs (both interior and exterior).

Make sure all window blinds and curtains are open evenly. Blinds should be turned flat and curtains should be open equal on both sides.

Remove vehicles from the driveway and away from the front of the house.

Stow/hide any loose outdoor items such as garden hoses, tools, and supplies.

Straighten and neatly arrange all outdoor furniture, cushions, and decor.

Sweep or blow off walkways, patios, and decks so surfaces look clean.
