twilight preparation

This guide outlines simple, practical steps to prepare your home for a twilight shoot. Completing these items ahead of time allows me to focus on capturing warm, polished, and dramatic twilight imagery.

30 minutes before

  • Turn on ALL interior lights in rooms that will be visible through windows. This includes overhead lights, lamps, under-cabinet lighting, etc.

  • Turn on ALL exterior lights. This includes porch lights, garage lights, landscape and patio lighting, water feature lighting, string lights, and any other visible fixtures.

  • Ensure all bulbs are working. Replace any burnt out light bulbs (both interior and exterior).

  • Make sure all window blinds and curtains are open evenly. Blinds should be turned flat and curtains should be open equal on both sides.

  • Remove vehicles from the driveway and away from the front of the house.

  • Stow/hide any loose outdoor items such as garden hoses, tools, and supplies.

  • Straighten and neatly arrange all outdoor furniture, cushions, and decor.

  • Sweep or blow off walkways, patios, and decks so surfaces look clean.
